Rain Please!

We're still lambing!
Only a few young ewes left to finish now though.
Some of the lambs need a helping hand to suck in the first few hours while the mothers learn what to do....

Spreading well rotted manure back onto the fields returns some nutrients to the soil and helps the grass grow.

The greenhouse is rammed with plants waiting to get potted up or planted out.

Chain harrowing....

Every year we inevitably get a certain amount of 'poached' ground at the entrances to the pony paddocks. So in the spring on a fine day we run the chain harrows over it to break it up and level it out. Then we scatter some grass seed, harrow again, and then give the ground a rest from any livestock and allow it to recover.

Now what?!

Our tomato house before the winds came....

And after.....

The frame has been completely ruined and now we have 60+
tomato plants with no home. We lashed it to 4 strong fencing
posts at each corner and it still wasn't strong enough.

My favorite pig this year...

She looks tasty doesn't she!

LAMBING TIME!

As ever, the first lambs of the year have brought complications! Ewes abandoning their lambs, and others mothering lambs that aren't theirs! But we're generally off to a sound start.

The sunrise photo i took the other morning, but it really doesn't do it justice.
It was absolutely beautiful.

I'm busy now preparing for this weekends sheep keeping course.
I'll post some more cute lamb pictures soon!

Feeding time

Feeding the sheep with haylage and protein nuts is a daily
job in the build up to lambing. When it's cold, dry and
sunny it's a lovely way to start the day.
